Visual Field measurement and assessment: is used to test and monitor peripheral vision. It gives the doctor very valuable information about the neurological function of the retina, optic nerve and brain. This test is usually ordered to screen for and monitor certain eye diseases such as glaucoma. It is a sophisticated, computerized test that plots out and analyzes your side vision.

Advanced/Thorough Glaucoma Screening:   Glaucoma is a very complex disease. It is necessary to perform several diagnostic tests to determine somebody's risk level for developing glaucoma or if they indeed have glaucoma. This involves case history, eye pressure measurement, ocular evaluation with a slit lamp, ocular evaluation with dilation of the pupils to evaluate the optic nerve head, measurement of the thickness of the cornea and visual field evaluation. If required, further evaluation can be done with the HRT III (the Heidelberg Retinal Tomograph II.)

HRT III: The Heidelberg Retinal Tomogragh III uses scanning laser technology to produce a three dimensional image of the optic nerve head. This allows for more precise evaluation of the nerve, the part of the eye affected by glaucoma. It documents present nerve status and changes from previous measurements. It has become a very important tool for the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.

Contact Lens Medical Management: This involves a group of tests that are designed to determine your eye's ability to wear contacts, or to evaluate the performance of your current contact lenses and your eye's ability to continue wearing contacts. Consultation to discuss the newest contact lens options is available. Also, for new wearers, one-on-one instruction in the care and handling of your contact lenses is an important part of successful contact lens wear. We are dedicated to you having a completely healthy and enjoyable contact lens experience.

Digital Retinal Imaging/Fundus Photography:   These pictures are necessary to document the optic nerve, blood vessels, retina and macula. The photographs are used for documentation, comparison and sometimes to diagnose certain eye conditions. Fundus photography is a highly specialized form of medical imaging, we use the Optomap imaging system, one of only two offices who have this in Barrie. It will image up to 80% of your eye, as opposed to just 35% for the standard fundus photos.

Pachymetry/Corneal Thickness Measurement:   This is a test performed to measure the thickness of the cornea. This has become important and standard of care with respect to screening for glaucoma. A thin cornea is at greater risk of developing glaucoma. Also, true eye pressure values are sometimes under or over estimated depending on the thickness of the cornea. Therefore, eye pressure is not accurate unless this measurement is obtained. This test is also useful to monitor some diseases that affect the thickness of the cornea or to determine if someone is a candidate for laser vision correction.

No Obligation Laser Vision Correction Consultation:   Can you imagine not having to reach for your glasses or fumble for the alarm clock each morning? Clear vision without glasses has become a reality for millions of people who are tired of wearing their glasses or contacts.

You may be wondering "Is laser for me?" The only way to be certain if laser is an option for you is to have an eye examination. If we determine that your eyes are healthy and normal and that your prescription is stable, you could be a candidate. There are many questions and concerns that people have before undergoing such surgery and our doctors are here to answer those questions. We send our patients to a state of the art laser facility that performs the most advanced laser procedures and we are able to co-manage the pre and post operative care here in Barrie.
